Relief for Gas Malaysia Customers Impacted by COVID-19 and MCO

SHAH ALAM, 8 April 2020 – In response to the COVID-19 outbreak in our country, Gas Malaysia Berhad (“Gas Malaysia”), a member of MMC Group, announced special relief measures for its gas supplied customers to alleviate their burden due to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the movement control order announced by the government. This initiative is aimed to provide relief to Low Cost Residential customers and government hospitals during this period.

The unprecedented COVID-19 is felt across the globe and we are conscious of the challenges that are faced by our valued customers. In responding to the severe impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gas Malaysia’s Group Chief Executive Officer, En. Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap said, “These measures are designed to help ease the monthly gas charges and provide better flexibility for our customers, in navigating this trying period due to the COVID-19 pandemic.”

Gas Malaysia is offering a relief measure for its Low Cost Residential customers by giving a total rebate of RM100 per customer for a period of six months for gas consumption from April to September 2020. About 4,000 customers will benefit from the rebate offered. During this period, meter reading and issuance of bills by Gas Malaysia will be temporarily halted for customers under this category. However, the meter reading conducted in October 2020, will take into account the rebate offered and it will be reflected in our customers’ bill accordingly.

For our customers under the retail commercial and hotels category, Gas Malaysia will temporarily halt meter reading and issuance of bills from April to June 2020. The actual meter reading will be conducted in July and will be based on the actual units of gas consumed during that period. This measure will enable the retail customers and hotels to better manage their financial situation during this difficult time.

We appreciate the strong determination of our healthcare front-liners and their willingness to make sacrifices to protect our nation during this phase. In supporting their efforts during this pandemic, Gas Malaysia will waive the gas charges for all government hospitals that consume our natural gas. The gas charges waived is for a period of six months from April to September 2020.
