Gas Malaysia’s Back to School Programme Benefits 350 Underprivileged Students

HULU SELANGOR, 2 February 2024 – Gas Malaysia Berhad (“Gas Malaysia”), a member of MMC Group, spearheaded a “Back To School” initiative aimed at assisting about 350 underprivileged students from Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Baru Batang Kali (“SMKBBBK”) in Hulu Selangor as they begin the new schooling term.

The event was graced by the Group Chief Executive Officer of Gas Malaysia, En. Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap and several members of the management team. Also, present as dignitaries were Puan Hafizah Kamaruzaman, School Improvement Specialist Coaches+, from Pejabat Pendidikan Daerah Hulu Selangor, together with Puan Hanishah Mohd, Pengetua Cemerlang SMKBBBK.

Recognising education as a fundamental catalyst for societal progress, Gas Malaysia has maintained its unwavering focus on creating a positive social impact and fostering sustainable development, especially in the regions where it conducts its operations. This commitment towards Corporate Social Responsibility (“CSR”) initiatives underscores Gas Malaysia’s profound belief in the transformative power of education, which aligns closely with one of its CSR pillars, specifically “Education”.

The community outreach initiative aimed to enhance the living conditions of students by supplying essential school necessities for the 2024 schooling term. These included school uniforms, shoes, bags and other related items. Gas Malaysia sought to ease the
financial burden of families and ensure that every student, regardless of their economic background, had the necessary tools to pursue their education through its annual Back To School programme.

At the handover ceremony, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Gas Malaysia, En. Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap said, “We believe that every child deserves the opportunity to quality education, regardless of their socio-economic background. Our
“Back To School” programme reflects our commitment in supporting the communities we serve and empowering future generations.”

Gas Malaysia Berhad, a member of MMC Corporation Berhad, was established on 16 May 1992 to sell, market and distribute natural gas as well as to construct, operate and maintain the Natural Gas Distribution System (“NGDS”) within Peninsular Malaysia.
