This community outreach initiative is a collaboration between Gas Malaysia and Pertubuhan Baitul Lathofah. It was aimed to improve the living conditions of about 150 underprivileged school children by providing school necessities such as school uniforms, shoes and stationeries for the 2020 schooling term. Pertubuhan Baitul Lathofah was formed in 2005 and currently runs several welfare homes. These homes comprise of about 150 unfortunate children that are mainly orphans, having a single parent and are poverty-stricken.
The event was graced by the Chief Executive Officer of Gas Malaysia, Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap (“Ahmad Hashimi”) and several members from the Senior Management team. Also, present representing Pertubuhan Baitul Lathofah was Puan Nonati, the Chairperson with her management team. Subsequently, the highlight of the event is when Ahmad Hashimi set a precedent by planting a sapling at the orphanage symbolically officiating the programme.
Following which, Ahmad Hashimi commented, “We believe that in order for our business to be sustainable, we should balance our business ambitions with corporate social responsibility initiatives. In fact, education is one of our four CSR pillars. On this premise, we explored potential initiatives to contribute towards healthy intellectual growth.”
In addition to the said initiative, about 20 employees from Gas Malaysia participated in a gotongroyong session to clean the orphanage with the assistance from 4 caretakers.
Prior to this, Gas Malaysia’s employees had conducted a “Clothes Donation Campaign” at their head office. It was organised specifically for the benefit of the children at the orphanage predominantly aged 12 years and below. The clothes were then handed over to the caretakers.
“Guided by our vision to be an innovative value-added energy solutions provider, we will continue to further increase our corporate social responsibility initiatives to other unfortunate communities,” Ahmad Hashimi concluded.
