Gas Malaysia Subsidiary Partners with Customer to Support Needy Students

TELUK INTAN, 1 March 2024 – Gas Malaysia Berhad’s (Gas Malaysia) wholly owned subsidiary, Gas Malaysia Energy and Services Sdn Bhd (GMES) together with its customer, Central Medicare Sdn Bhd (Central Medicare) took the lead in organising a “Back To School” programme. This initiative was designed to provide assistance to 188 underprivileged students from Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Jong (SKCJ) in Teluk Intan, Perak for their new schooling term.

This initiative aligns well with Gas Malaysia’s ongoing commitment to support underprivileged students (within the B40 category) annually. The commitment depicted for Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative such as these, underscores Gas Malaysia’s deep-seated belief in the transformative power of education. This programme falls within one of Gas Malaysia’s four CSR pillars, specifically focused on “Education”. Further to this, it also provided GMES with an invaluable opportunity to engage meaningfully with its customer, fostering mutually beneficial partnership aimed at enhancing societal well-being.

The event itself was graced with the presence of Gas Malaysia’s management team alongside representatives from Central Medicare, further highlighting their collaborative spirit for a noble cause.

This community outreach initiative sought to some extent ease the burden of families as they prepare for the start of the new schooling term, ensuring that every student, irrespective of their circumstances possessed the essential resources to pursue their education effectively.

The provisions extended to the students included items such as school uniforms, shoes, school bags, workbooks, stationary supplies and other related items. In addition, GMES and Central Medicare are also actively collaborating to enhance the infrastructure of SKCJ, including building repairs and classroom equipment upgrades, further demonstrating their pledge to support a conducive learning experience.

Speaking about the ongoing CSR effort taken by the company to uplift the community, Group Chief Executive Officer of Gas Malaysia, En. Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap said, “We are proud to introduce a novel approach aimed at magnifying our positive impact within the community we serve. By joining forces with our valued customers like Central Medicare, we are not only extending our reach but also leveraging collective strengths to make a meaningful difference. This collaborative effort underscores our commitment to creating a wider and more profound impact, touching the lives of a broader spectrum of individuals. Through initiatives like the “Back To School” programme, we aspire to uplift communities, empower individuals and ultimately contribute to a brighter and more inclusive society.”

Since 2018, Central Medicare has been a valued customer of GMES, establishing business presence in Changkat Jong contributing to the rubber glove industry. As part of their ongoing collaboration, GMES is slated to provide natural gas supply for Central Medicare’s second plant, which is targeted to commence operations in April 2024 at Changkat Jong. This CSR endeavour signifies a joint commitment towards giving back to the community where both parties have established business presence and emphasises their shared dedication towards community engagement.

“As we move forward, Gas Malaysia and its subsidiary companies are committed to exploring alternative avenues to better serve the broader community. We firmly believe that sustainable growth hinges on striking a delicate balance between our business aspirations and responsible corporate practices. Embracing this ethos, we pledge to not only advance our business interests but also uphold our social and environmental responsibilities.,” En. Hashimi concluded.
