



SHAH ALAM, 27 JULY 2023 – Gas Malaysia Berhad (Gas Malaysia), a member of MMC Group, and Tokyo Gas Network Co., Ltd. (Tokyo Gas Network) have taken significant steps towards reinforcing their commitment towards innovative strategies and industry development in the gas distribution sector by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The MoU solidifies both parties commitment to cooperate and collaborate with each other to exchange expertise and information for the purpose of an employee exchange programme. The programme aims to facilitate the exchange of technical and non-technical employees between both companies, which will address the business needs as well as provide an opportunity to actively participate towards nation building.
The signing ceremony was conducted at Gas Malaysia’s Resource and Training Centre in Shah Alam and it marked the collective effort of both parties, underscoring their pursuit for growth and development. Gas Malaysia’s Group Chief Executive Officer, En. Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap along with Mr. Kunio Nohata, Director, Chairperson of the Board from Tokyo Gas Network represented their respective companies as the signatories of the MoU and it was jointly witnessed by representatives from both parties.
Under the MoU, Gas Malaysia and Tokyo Gas Network intend to facilitate the exchange of expertise in their respective gas distribution business. By pooling resources and knowledge, both parties seek to unlock new and innovative business ventures and at the same time proactively address potential risks associated with their ventures.
Since 1992, Gas Malaysia has built a synergistic partnership with Tokyo Gas Group and the MoU signing ceremony will be another milestone occasion for both business entities, as it will further bolster the long-term partnership and enable collaborative arrangements.
Commenting on the inked deal, Gas Malaysia’s Group Chief Executive Officer, En. Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap said, “We are resolute in our commitment to further strengthen our position in the gas distribution sector as well as contribute positively to the energy landscape. This MoU sets the stage to further strengthen the strategic partnership between both parties and I remain optimistic that it will unlock possible avenues for future growth. Collaboration has become one of the key drivers for business success and this MoU serves as a testament to our belief in synergising with a reputable company like Tokyo Gas Group.”
Comments from Mr. SAWADA Satoru, President and CEO of Tokyo Gas Network Co., Ltd. Since the establishment of Gas Malaysia, Tokyo Gas Group have built a relationship as an overseas corporate partner. Gas Malaysia and Tokyo Gas first signed a comprehensive cooperative relationship in July 2018 and have deepened personnel exchanges. We are very pleased that Tokyo Gas Network, which took over the gas pipeline business from Tokyo Gas, has concluded an agreement with Gas Malaysia to establish a mutual cooperation.
Toward the goal of achieving both stable energy supply and decarbonization, as stated in the group’s mid-term management plan “Compass Transformation 23-25,” Tokyo Gas Network will contribute to realize carbon-neutral society by 2050 as set forth by the Japanese Government through achieving the CO2 net zero by enhancing the operation and resilience of its supply network.
