Gas Malaysia Donates Essential Household Items to the Needy

PETALING JAYA, SELANGOR, 2 July 2021 – With a commitment to aid the less fortunate by improving their living conditions, Gas Malaysia Berhad (“Gas Malaysia”), a member of MMC Group, conducted a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative in response to the current Covid-19 outbreak by distributing essential household items to about 100 families living in PPR Lembah Subang flats, Petaling Jaya. This CSR initiative is an effort to engage with the less fortunate communities under the MMC Prihatin programme.

Present during the handover ceremony was YB Tuan Halimey Bin Abu Bakar ADUN Seri Setia together with the Group Chief Executive Officer of Gas Malaysia, Encik Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap.

Commenting on the CSR initiative, the Group Chief Executive Officer of Gas Malaysia, Encik Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap said, “The Covid-19 virus has taken a toll on everyone’s lives. Besides the direct morbidity and mortality impact of the virus, measures undertaken to control the spread of the virus have had a far-reaching effect on people’s livelihoods. As a caring corporate citizen, we subscribe to the view that a successful business entity is built on a firm foundation that cares and provides towards the betterment of society, precisely the less fortunate communities.”

“We believe in giving back to the community via our CSR programmes, much in line with our CSR theme of ‘Energising the Community’. As a sustainable company with strong foundations, we are uniquely positioned to help the less fortunate. Receiving the support from ADUN Seri Setia, YB Tuan Halimey Bin Abu Bakar to conduct this CSR programme is indeed encouraging. We sincerely hope that with this timely contribution, to a certain extent it will help elevate the difficulties faced by the families living in Flat Lembah Subang, Petaling Jaya due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he elaborated.

Some of the essential household items distributed were rice, cooking oil, sugar, chili powder and personal hygiene kits such as surgical face mask. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the household items were distributed by adhering to the necessary safety precautionary measures.

“Although the pandemic is not over yet, the ongoing vaccination programme will set a more positive tone and is expected to give us much hope. As a responsible business entity, we will extend our CSR programmes to a wider pool of beneficiaries, especially during these trying times. In line with this, we will continue to support our frontliners and healthcare facilities in their fight against the spread of the Covid-19 virus,” he concluded.
