Gas Malaysia Commits to Positive Impact on Homeless and Urban Poor Communities

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 February 2025 – Demonstrating a steadfast commitment to the well-being of underserved communities, Gas Malaysia Berhad (Gas Malaysia), a member of MMC Group, distributed over 200 packed meals to assist the homeless and urban poor at the Medan Tuanku Transit Center in Kuala Lumpur as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.

This food aid initiative marks the second consecutive year that Gas Malaysia has collaborated with Pertubuhan Tindakan Wanita Islam (PERTIWI), reaffirming its commitment to addressing critical needs such as food security. Through this partnership, Gas Malaysia and PERTIWI provided nutritious meals to those in need, addressing one of the most pressing challenges faced by the less fortunate in urban areas.

The final session of this three-part CSR initiative saw the participation of approximately 15 volunteers from Gas Malaysia.

Gas Malaysia’s President & Group Chief Executive Officer, En. Ahmad Hashimi Abdul Manap expressed his thoughts, “Through our CSR initiatives, we aim to bring hope and relief to the underserved communities. As a responsible corporate citizen, it is our duty to extend support to those who require assistance.”

In light of the growing number of underprivileged individuals in society, Gas Malaysia organised a total of three food distribution sessions to address the immediate needs of these groups. This effort is to broaden Gas Malaysia’s outreach, enabling the company to support a greater number of beneficiaries.

“We have successfully served approximately 700 needy recipients in total, and actively encouraged our employees to volunteer, making this a truly meaningful and impactful effort. This experience will be an eye-opener for our employees and it also strengthen Gas Malaysia’s commitment to humanitarian values and volunteerism, demonstrating our dedication to giving back to society,” En. Ahmad Hashimi elaborated.

Gas Malaysia’s CSR framework is built on four key pillars – Community, Sports, Education and Environment – ensuring that the company’s business goals are balanced with responsible corporate practices.

“Gas Malaysia is committed to making a lasting contribution to the local community, paving the way for sustainable progress. Through a series of ongoing initiatives, the company aims to make a positive impact, helping those in need,” En. Ahmad Hashimi concluded.
