Regulatory Framework

In September 1998, pursuant to the Gas Supply Act 1993, a Gas Utility Licence (“GUL”) was issued to Gas Malaysia by the Director General, Department of Electricity and Gas Supply (“DEGS”). Subsequently, the DEGS was dissolved and its regulatory functions were taken over by Suruhanjaya Tenaga (“ST”), which was established under the Energy Commission Act 2001, to enhance the effectiveness of regulatory control over the energy sector.
To comply with the GUL conditions, Gas Malaysia periodically submits reports to ST, outlining issues concerning maintenance and operations of the gas distribution systems as well as customer service. Under the terms and conditions, the license of various Codes and Statements of Performance have been submitted to ST, and they are being updated regularly in line with market changes and international best practices.
