Spearheaded by the Government's direction to 'gastify the nation' and policies such as the Industrial Energy Efficiency Programme and various fiscal incentives promoting energy efficincy projects to the industrial and commercial sectors.

Working together with the institutional framework in place such as the Energy Commission, the Malaysian Energy Centre Efficiency; Gas Malaysia has also taken a pro-active role in introducing and promoting new technology such as Combined Heat Power and Distributed Generation to our customers; potential or existing.

The setting up of the Combined Heat and Power (CHP) section within the organization underscores our commitment to the promotion and utilization of new technologies such as CHP as an effective and efficient vehicle to increase the usage of natural gas whilst increasing the potential cost savings and energy efficiency of our customers' businesses.

For two years now, we installed a Distributed Power Generation Unit on our premises to showcase the potential savings in terms of energy and of course the ultimate bottom line - in terms of money.

In addition, encouraged by the positive results shown so far, we have installed a CHP unit on an industrial customer's premises. This unit has a heat recovery system which increases the overall energy efficiency even further to a maximum of 80%. And this translates to a savings of over RM153,672 per year for the customer.

At Gas Malaysia's Putrajaya branch office, we have installed a gas engine driven chiller system that is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. Putrajaya is a model city planned emphasizing the preservation of its eco-system while promoting an active, lively and caring society. The city is designed to provide opportunity for retreat from the pressures and stress of modern living. This urban landmark is almost completely supplied by reticulated Natural Gas.
