LIQUEFIED PETROLEUM GAS: COMPOSITION & CHARACTERISTICS

LPG is a gas at atmospheric pressure and normal ambient temperatures. It lends its name from its characteristic of being liquefied when moderate pressure is applied or when the temperature is sufficiently reduced.

The composition chart below outlines the typical components of LPG as supplied via Gas Malaysia's distribution system.

Typical Liquefied Petroleum Gas Characteristics

Specific Gravity 1.65
Gross Calorific Value (Kcal / Sm3) 28059
Burning Velocity (m/s) 0.46
Upper Flammability Limit 8.5
Lower Flammability Limit 1.9
Auto Ignition Temperature (°C) 510
Theoretical Air Requirement (m3 / m3) 28.81
